Parish registers online


820,000 Cumberland baptisms and marriages are included in the IGI at FamilySearch but not all parishes are included (you can see the coverage here).


Findmypast has about 50,000 baptisms and marriages, and a few thousand burial entries.


Ancestry has 4500 baptisms for the parishes of Isel and Kirkoswald, and almost 7000 marriages.


The volunteers of FreeREG have transcribed some of the registers for 9 Cumberland parishes. There is no Online Parish Clerks project for Cumberland.

Carlisle Archive Centre holds records for the part of the Cumberland north of the River Derwent, including Carlisle, Keswick, Penrith, and Maryport.


Whitehaven Archive and Local Studies Centre holds records for the area south of the River Derwent, which includes Cockermouth, Whitehaven, and Workington.


Cumbria Family History Society covers the historic counties of Cumberland and Westmorland, as well as parts of North Lancashire and North Yorkshire.
