I have really enjoyed poking around this British History site. Going through the Canadian school system, we had some English history lessons. This site gives a lot more local history than I ever learned in school.

Another excellent (although somewhat limited) resource for British History is Spartacus designed for high school students. The link is to some information on the Fabian Society as my grandparents were active in it c 1920. Not all periods or events are covered but I have found the entire site very "readable".
